AMLO, President of Mexico 2018.

After several years of running for the presidency of Mexico, Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador commonly known as AMLO, finally won the elections this 2018, after 3 attempts.

The projection of the results from votes recorded in a 5% random sample, gave a decisive victory: between 53% and 53.8%.

That result is far greater than what the polls were giving him, although he was placed ahead of his opponents throughout the campaign, his triumph is even bigger than he expected.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador offered a speech after he was named winner of the 2018 presidential election, where he called all Mexicans to a national reconciliation.

From day one, we will fulfill all the campaign commitments. I’m not going to fail you. You’re not going to be disappointed, I’m very aware of my historical responsibility. I don’t want to go into history as a bad president. I know what the other presidents have done, from Guadalupe Victoria to the present, and I want to go into history as a good president of Mexico.

He also commented that the Bank of Mexico will maintain its autonomy and the new government will continue with the financial and fiscal discipline, he stated that there will be no need to increase taxes, or the external debt, in addition to ending the Gasolinazos (Gasoline increases).

«I will lower current spending and increase public investment to boost productive activities and create jobs, the purpose is to strengthen the domestic market and produce in the country what we consume,» he said.

The main topics that AMLO will have to attend from December 1, 2018, are security, economy and employment, as well as foreign trade, migration and corruption. Mexico’s stability over the next six years will depend to a large extent on addressing these issues.

While December 1 arrives, this week businessmen of the Mexican Business Council compromise to Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador to collaborate with the elected administration to generate more jobs, however the entrepreneurs said they will defend their Right to judge.

As for economic policies, the elected President stated that he hopes to finance an  increased investment in social-welfare through an anti-corruption campaign and government austerity programs.

In his meeting with the still President Enrique Peña Nieto, the elected candidate Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador affirmed that he will comply with the agreements reached by the current negotiating team of NAFTA, headed by the Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo.
