Bogota as an ideal investment destination

And it is not only from the recent filming of Mile 22 with John Malkovich and Mark Wahlberg, but for several years Bogotá has become the site of important Hollywood productions and a must scale of artists of the caliber of Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and U2, the latter was presented for the first time in the country in October of last year.

 

Just as the City has entered the cultural and entertainment agendas, perhaps the most visible face of his progress and versatility has done the same for foreign investors. The economic growth, its industrial development, the market size and the increase in the economic capacity of the population has attracted foreign companies of different sectors, and with their successful business experiences have made of Bogotá a case study in MBA programs worldwide.

 

In the last 5 years there has been a significant increase in the number of university missions that are fundamental because today students of will be the decision makers of the companies in the future. Since 2013 the number of missions has doubled annually.

 

Although each mission has a particular focus, the most common topics of interest are Bogotá’s positioning and promotion strategy, studies of its sectoral business environment, investment opportunities and the intelligent Specialization Project Focused on the development of the city and turn it into a key sector center.

 

In the last decade, international investors have perceived the positive change in the image that Bogota projects as a center for development and opportunities, and this has stimulated new study projects. According to the 2016 América Economía Ranking, Bogotá is the fifth best city to do business in Latin America according to its services, infrastructure and human capital. In addition, in its ranking 2017-2018, the magazine FDI ranks it as the fifth city of the future in Latin America with the best investment strategy in the region, competing with important cities in the region such as Sao Paulo, Mexico City and Santiago de Chile.

 

Last year, a total of 24 countries invested or reinvested in Bogotá, a trend that has been increasing since more than 50 countries did it for the first time in the last decade. It is increasingly common to find projects from countries such as Kuwait, South Africa or the Czech Republic, as well as Asian countries with emerging economies have gradually ceased to be sporadic investors to become frequent. China, South Korea, India, and Japan have settled their investments in the city, and with Colombia’s position in the Pacific Alliance, Bogotá is shaping up as a bridge between Asia and Latin America. For that reason, as it happened with the University of Stellenbach of South Africa, one hopes to receive university missions of these destinies more and more interested in knowing and learning of the city.
